Build an AI weekly report that shows coverage and decisions
A useful AI weekly report summarizes verified changes, open decisions and missing coverage for a defined business period.

A useful AI weekly report summarizes verified changes, open decisions and missing coverage for a defined business period. It should not equate an unavailable source with no activity. Start with the decisions the reader needs to make, then choose the metrics and records that support them.
Define the reporting contract
Imagine a small team reviewing sales and delivery each Friday. The report may need new opportunities, completed milestones and blocked commitments. Each metric needs a definition, source, time zone and reporting window.
Without those definitions, a count can change because the query changed rather than because the business improved.
Use a compact report structure
- Period and coverage: what was checked and what was unavailable.
- Changes: verified movement since the previous report.
- Outcomes: completed work with links to evidence.
- Decisions: specific choices needed from named owners.
- Follow-through: the next action on unresolved commitments.
Keep raw activity separate from business outcomes. Ten follow-up drafts do not equal ten customer conversations, and a sent proposal does not equal a sale.
Reconcile before summarizing
Check totals against the source and inspect duplicate records. Compare the same definitions across periods. If a source is incomplete, label the affected section and avoid presenting its partial count as the whole picture.
For numerical calculations, use deterministic code or the source system where possible. Have the model explain verified results rather than invent arithmetic from a loose collection of text.
Make the report easy to act on
End each unresolved item with an owner and concrete next step. Do not create urgency from a quiet week or infer employee performance from message volume. Review whether the report helped the team make decisions; remove sections that generate reading work without supporting action.
